We recently reviewed and compared some really nice outerwear from FootJoy and Sun Mountain. Each year, golf outerwear and rain suits and particular keep getting better and better.
We looked a wide range of rain suits – some costing as little as $49.95 and others well over $200.00. Cost was a big factor as well as how the rain suit will perform out on the golf course where it counts most!
Up front, I must admit that I personally own a Sun Mountain RainFlex jacket, and it has served me well over the past year and still looks new. So in order to be fair, we had a few of our players here test out and try each of these rain suits on the golf course, when it was raining (we had to bribe them with a few adult beverages, but that’s another story).
Coming in at #1 was the FootJoy Performance Rain Jacket. Although it is somewhat pricey ($199.95) and you have to shell out another $149.95 for the pants, this placed 1st in every category. The Sta-Dry lining did exactly that – you stayed dry! We really appreciated the snap down collar when swing at the ball. And it comes in 6 classic color combinations – none of which look like they will ever go out of style.
Tied for second were the Sun Mountain RainFlex jacket and the Sun Mountain Provisional Rain Suit. The provisional placed second mainly due to the price ($79.95) and because it was the only one of the bunch that includes the pants for free.
All in all, these were some terrific products and the difference between 1st and last place was only 7 points on a 30 point scale.
